Shaving Cream and Grooming Products

Further details about lather shaving cream

Let's face it, the beginning of each new day is a fragile time. And yet this is when many of us, bleary-eyed, our brain firing on one cylinder, wield a razor to sheer off thousands of hairs. It is a real sensory delight to start the morning with one of our many aromatic luxury shaving creams. The positive experience can play at least a small part in setting the tone for your entire day.

For the morning ritual, SESTO SENSO has put together a collection of luxury lather shaving creams from such well-respected firms as Geo F. Trumper (England), Cyril R. Salter (England), Proraso (Italy), Pashana (England), Musgo Real (Portugal), Taylor of Old Bond Street (England), Jack Black (United States), and we will continue to expand this collection as we find other shaving creams we feel worthy of your consideration.

The ingredients in these shaving creams are so gentle, and certainly as good as the finest facial soaps, that many clients literally lather their entire face. After rinsing, they then lather the area to be shaved without adding any more soap to the brush. The luxurious lather provides an excellent lubrication that allows a razor to effortlessly remove the toughest beard, while the enriched glycerin base soothes sensitive complexions and promotes healthy skin. It is our opinion these shaving creams are far superior to aerosol foams, gels or shaving oils.

It is worth noting that all these shaving creams can be used with, or without, a shaving brush. This is certainly wonderful news for men who don't use a brush ... and for women (yes women adore these creams as well).

Remember, part of the fun of lather shaving creams is having an assortment of fragrances on hand. Each morning can be an adventure, as you decide which fragrance most appeals to you that day. Shaving definitely does not have to be boring.

How to Produce a Close and Comfortable Shave

1) For a close shave, always use hot water before shaving to soften the beard, open the pores and cleanse the skin. This can be accomplished by running a face cloth under warm water and holding it to your face, or by running warm water into your hands, and holding the water to your face. Of course this can be done in the shower or standing over a sink.

2) A pre shave cream or gel is a great help when preparing to shave as it makes the shave easier and protects the skin. Scholars of shaving say that pre-shave treatments help the beard stand erect, moisturize and reduce irritation. This is entirely a personal preference, and we recommend that you at lease try a few to know if they work for you. Try: Proraso Pre/Post Cream or Musgo Real Shave Gel.

3) Use a great moisturizing shaving cream (Taylor of Old Bond Street, Cyril R. Salter, Geo F. Trumper, Musgo Real, Proraso) and lather for at least 20 seconds. Ideally, use a shaving brush to lift the beard from the face and soften the hair. Connoisseurs recommend using a boar bristle or badger hair brush, which will caresses your skin while it pulls the beard upward and away from the face for a closer shave.

4) Use a quality razor blade with a handle that offers a good weight and balance. Always shave in the direction of the hair growth (hair grows out of the pore at an angle, and the direction the hair points is called the grain), as shaving against the grain can cause razor burns and in-growing hairs. If the hairs towards the base of the throat are growing in the opposite direction to the rest of the face, i.e. upwards, you must shave upwards in that area. Do not apply heavy pressure to your razor as this can cause razor burn and skin irritation. Glide the razor gently over the face. The most important thing to remember is to always use a sharp blade, and let the blade do the cutting.

5) Rinse the face with cold water after shaving to assist pore closure. In the event of nicks and cuts, use a moistened Alum Block to stop the bleeding. Use an After Shave lotion (Taylor of Old Bond Street, Musgo Real, Proraso)to refresh and tone the skin after shaving. Men with sensitive skin should consider using alcohol free After Shave Balm. Try our Proraso Liquid Cream Aftershave or Jack Black Cooling Gel for a non-alcohol finish.

6) Finally, rinse your brush well, shake out the excess moisture and always let dry with the hairs facing downwards.
